The C\u00f4te Chalonnaise, in Sa\u00f4ne-et-Loire, extends the C\u00f4te d’Or south of the C\u00f4te de Beaune to the north of the M\u00e2connais mountains. Mercurey is one of Burgundy’s most important wine appellations in terms of vineyard area. The Appellation d’Origine Contr\u00f4l\u00e9e (AOC) was established in 1923. The vines are located between 230 and 320 metres above sea level and cover more than 400 hectares. The wines of Mercurey were appreciated by Gabrielle d’Estr\u00e9e, mistress of Henri IV.
